Rwanda’s most supported club, Rayon Sports, has stepped up its activity in the transfer market as it prepares for the second round of the Rwanda Premier League. The Blues are currently in advanced negotiations with Ugandan forward Muhammad Ssenoga Kagawa, as the club looks to strengthen its squad ahead of the crucial phase of the season.
Rayon Sports has not enjoyed the strongest start to the 2025/26 campaign, a situation that has prompted the club’s management to seek reinforcements. After playing 11 matches, Rayon Sports sits in fifth place with 17 points, a position considered below expectations given the club’s ambitions and stature in Rwandan football.
This standing contrasts sharply with the optimism that surrounded the team before the season kicked off. As a result, the club is now determined to reclaim its competitive edge and restore confidence among its passionate fan base, who expect consistent performances and a serious title challenge.
In an effort to revive its attacking force, Rayon Sports has entered final discussions with Muhammad Ssenoga Kagawa, who previously played for Express FC in the Ugandan Premier League. The 24-year-old forward is viewed as a key addition capable of injecting pace, creativity, and goals into the team’s frontline.
Rayon Sports’ interest in Kagawa is largely driven by its struggles in attack this season. The team has faced challenges converting chances into goals, a problem worsened by a series of injuries that have affected several attacking players at different stages of the campaign.
Kagawa has enjoyed an impressive run of form in Uganda, where he currently stands as the league’s top scorer, having netted six goals in ten matches. His consistency in front of goal has made him one of the most sought-after attackers in the region and an attractive option for the Rwandan giants.
If negotiations conclude successfully, the Ugandan striker is expected to join training with his new teammates on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. Training sessions are currently being overseen by Lomami Marcel, who was recently appointed as an assistant coach, working alongside Harouna Ferouz, who has been in charge of the team.
Meanwhile, Rayon Sports is also awaiting the arrival of head coach Bruno Ferry, who is scheduled to land in Rwanda on Thursday, December 18. His arrival comes as the team prepares for a challenging encounter against Gorilla FC in Matchday 12 of the Rwanda Premier League, a fixture that could shape the club’s momentum going into the second half of the season.
