Muhire Kevin Explains Why He Sued Rayon Sports and Why the Club Is Unlikely to Win the League

Former Rayon Sports midfielder Muhire Kevin has revealed the reasons why he decided to take legal action against his former club through the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA), while also expressing doubts about the club’s ability to compete for the Rwanda Premier League title this season.

The former Rayon Sports captain parted ways with the club at the end of the 2024/25 season and later joined Jamus SC, a top-flight club in South Sudan.

Why Muhire Kevin Took Rayon Sports to FERWAFA

Before leaving Rwanda, Muhire filed a formal complaint against Rayon Sports, accusing the club of failing to pay him two months’ salary as well as outstanding transfer-related payments.

Speaking in an interview with Radio/TV10, Muhire confirmed that the decision to sue the club was not driven by hostility, but by how one of the club’s leaders treated the issue.

“I never betrayed Rayon Sports or spoke badly about it in the media. Even today, I still communicate well with all the leaders, and I have no personal conflict with anyone,” Muhire said.

He explained that the situation escalated after he was given a cheque that had already expired, which he could not cash. When he asked for clarification from the finance department, he was told he would be paid on Rayon Day, a promise he accepted.

However, things changed when a newly appointed official allegedly dismissed his concerns.

“Someone new at the club told me that even if I reported Rayon Sports to FERWAFA, nothing would happen to them. That is when I decided to officially file the complaint,” he added.

Muhire emphasized that he remains on good terms with all senior club figures, including Twagirayezu Thaddée, and described Rayon Sports as a family despite the dispute.

“I Played for Love, Not for Money”

Muhire Kevin strongly denied claims that he joined Rayon Sports for financial gain, stating that the club never paid him the figures that were widely reported in the media.

“Rayon Sports never paid me the 40 million RWF people talk about. The total amount I signed for did not even reach 20 million RWF,” he said.

He explained that although they agreed on certain payments, the club often failed to fully honor them.

“They paid me partially, and I never pressured them because I believed they would pay me once money became available. Sometimes the money would come, but it would be used for other needs. I stayed calm because I saw Rayon Sports as a family.”

Rayon Sports Interested in Re-Signing Muhire Kevin

Muhire also confirmed that Rayon Sports recently expressed interest in bringing him back, but said such a move would be difficult at the moment.

According to him, Jamus SC invested heavily in his transfer and considers him one of their key players.

“They wrote asking for a loan deal. I don’t know if Jamus SC responded, but I highly doubt they would release me. I am the most expensive signing at the club,” he explained.

Nevertheless, Muhire made it clear that his emotional attachment to Rayon Sports remains strong.

“If Jamus SC agrees, I would gladly play for Rayon Sports again because it is my home.”

Why Muhire Believes Rayon Sports Cannot Win the League

In the same interview, Muhire openly criticized the current squad depth and quality at Rayon Sports, saying it is not strong enough to compete at the highest level.

“I watched their match against Etincelles. When you look at both the starting eleven and the substitutes, you can clearly see that the team needs more quality players,” he said.

He added bluntly: “The current Rayon Sports team cannot win the league title, nor can it realistically compete for a top-five finish.”

Current League Situation

As things stand, Rayon Sports sit in 7th place in the Rwanda Premier League with 21 points after 13 matchdays. They trail league leaders Police FC by eight points, making their title hopes increasingly uncertain.
