Kiyovu Sports Beat Al Hilal SC to Break into Top Four

Kiyovu Sports secured an important 2–1 victory over Al Hilal SC in the closing match of Rwanda Premier League Matchday 11, a result that lifted the Green Backs into the top four of the league standings.

Goals from Mutunzi Darcy and Uwineza René completed a comeback win for Kiyovu Sports, who showed strong character after going into halftime trailing by one goal.

Both teams came into the match under pressure. Al Hilal SC were looking to bounce back after a 2–1 defeat to Rutsiro FC, while Kiyovu Sports were also eager to respond following their recent loss to Marine FC.

The match began at a high tempo, with Al Hilal SC dominating the early exchanges and pushing aggressively in search of an opening goal. Their positive approach paid off in the 16th minute, when Ousmane Diouf rose highest to head home from a corner kick, giving the Sudanese side a deserved lead.

Al Hilal continued to control much of the first half and created several scoring opportunities. However, Adama Coulibaly and Kabore Abdel were unable to convert clear chances, allowing Kiyovu Sports to stay within reach. The first half ended with Al Hilal SC leading 1–0, after a difficult opening period for Kiyovu.

Kiyovu Sports returned for the second half with renewed energy following tactical changes. Niyo David and Bukuru Christopher were introduced, replacing Nsanzimfura Keddy and Mugisha Rama Joseph, a move that immediately improved Kiyovu’s attacking rhythm.

The equalizer arrived in the 63rd minute after a costly defensive error. Al Hilal defender Lusolo Ernest attempted to play the ball back to goalkeeper Mohamed Madani, but Mutunzi Darcy intercepted the pass and calmly finished to level the score.

As the match entered the final quarter-hour, both teams pushed forward in an open and entertaining contest, with chances created at both ends. The decisive moment came in the 79th minute, when Uwineza René spotted goalkeeper Madani off his line and struck a brilliant long-range effort to give Kiyovu Sports a 2–1 lead.

The closing minutes were intense and physical, marked by frequent fouls and heated exchanges as Al Hilal desperately searched for an equalizer. However, Kiyovu Sports defended resolutely to see out the victory.

At full time, Kiyovu Sports moved up to fourth place with 19 points, while Al Hilal SC dropped to 16th position with 10 points. Earlier, in the opening match of the round, Gicumbi FC defeated Marine FC 1–0.

The Rwanda Premier League resumes on Friday, with AS Kigali hosting Bugesera FC at 3:00 PM, while Gorilla FC face Rayon Sports at 6:30 PM, both matches scheduled to take place at Kigali Pelé Stadium.
