Al Merreikh SC secured a crucial 1–0 win against Marine FC on Wednesday evening, earning their fourth league victory since joining the Rwanda Premier League earlier this season. The Sudanese side, which relocated to Rwanda together with rivals Al Hilal due to ongoing insecurity in Sudan, continues to show impressive adaptation to their temporary home competition.
The match took place at Kigali Pelé Stadium on December 10, 2025, kicking off at 6:00 PM. From the opening minutes, Al Merreikh showed strong intent, pressing high and controlling much of the midfield play.
Their breakthrough arrived early in the first half when Dauda Ba scored the lone goal in the 18th minute. His clinical finish gave Al Merreikh the lead and ultimately decided the match, as Marine FC struggled to find a way back despite several attempts in the second half.
A Growing Presence in the Rwanda Premier League
Al Merreikh and Al Hilal were granted permission to join the 2025/2026 Rwanda Premier League after conflict in their home country forced them to seek a safe environment to continue competing. Their inclusion has added more competitiveness, visibility, and international attention to the league.
Since arriving in Rwanda, Al Merreikh has demonstrated strong discipline and growing cohesion within the squad, making them a team to watch as the season advances.
Marine FC’s Missed Chances
Marine FC showed moments of promise but lacked finishing power in the final third. Despite a much-improved second half, they were unable to break through Al Merreikh’s well-organized defense. The loss adds pressure on Marine as they continue their battle for consistency in the league.
What’s Next for Al Merreikh?
With this victory, Al Merreikh strengthens its position in the standings and boosts morale ahead of the remaining fixtures of the Rwanda Premier League season. The team aims to continue its upward trajectory as it adjusts to life in Rwanda and competes for top positions.
