Al Hilal striker Jean Claude Girumugisha has sent a strong warning to Rayon Sports and APR FC, stating that his team’s main objective is to win the Rwanda Premier League this season.
The Burundian forward made these remarks after Al Hilal defeated Bugesera FC 3-1 in their latest league match. Girumugisha was the star of the game, scoring all three goals for Al Hilal and earning the Man of the Match award.
Speaking to ISIMBI Media after the match, Girumugisha said the team is fully focused on competing for the league title.
“Our objective is clear,” he said. “Every team that plays football wants to win trophies, and we are no different. We are working very hard to see if we can win the league ahead of APR FC. We also want to go far in African competitions.”
Despite admitting that football can be unpredictable, the Al Hilal striker expressed confidence ahead of matches against the country’s biggest teams.
“I believe we will beat them,” Girumugisha said. “I am confident that we can defeat Rayon Sports and APR FC, although sometimes things change once you step onto the pitch.”
Girumugisha also shared his thoughts on Rwandan players who have impressed him since joining the league. He highlighted APR FC centre-back Niyigena Clement as one of the most outstanding players.
“There are many good players here,” he said. “That APR FC central defender, Niyigena Clement, is a very talented player.”
His comments come at a time when Niyigena Clement has just been crowned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2024–25 season, underlining his importance in the league.
This is Girumugisha Jean Claude’s first season playing in the Rwanda Premier League, following CAF’s decision to allow Sudanese club Al Hilal to compete in Rwanda’s top division during the 2025–26 season.
